Designing Adaptive Study Programmes Together
How can study programmes be redesigned to remain relevant in a rapidly changing world? And how can such change be achieved in a way that creates ownership, builds consensus, and draws on the collective expertise of a diverse academic community?
In this Refresh Teaching session, we share insights from the Studiengangsinitiative² (SI²), an ongoing curriculum revision project at the Department of Environmental Systems Science (D-USYS) involving students, lecturers, researchers, administrative staff, alumni, employers, external experts, and other stakeholders. Through a moderated discussion, we will explore how the participatory process was designed, which structures and formats support meaningful involvement, and why these elements are critical for navigating complex educational change.
Rather than focusing on final outcomes, this Refresh Teaching examines the process itself: how participation is organised, how diverse perspectives are brought together, and how collaborative structures can help develop study programmes that are robust, adaptable, and prepared for future societal, scientific, and technological challenges. Participants will gain practical insights and transferable ideas for their own curriculum development and educational innovation projects.
